WeChat , a popular instant messaging app that was developed at the Tencent Guangzhou Research and Project center in China has launched a new feature that detects if false news is being circulated.
As reported by Efe news, “This new feature warns users if a piece of information that they have received is reported as fake by the Chinese censors, official media outlets or police”. This mobile app is used for mobile payments, messaging, renting bicycles and ordering food. Along with notifying the users if the news they received is false, the users also be alerted if a piece of information that they share with their friends is found to be false. This new programme acts as a social game by ranking users based on the number of fake news that they have read.
