She’s the enchantress behind the glam-packed looks of celebrities who strut with poise and pose with style for the paparazzi. From styling Bollywood’s A-list celebrities – like Kajol Devgn, Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit-Nene, Karisma Kapoor, Lara Dutta, Chitrangada Singh and Jhanvi Kapoor – to launching her own label, Eshaa Amiin made a steady journey into the rather slippery field of fashion. A graduate from NIFT, Mumbai and an ingenious fashionista, she gets candid with You & I.
One of the main reasons that fashion happened was because of my passion for clothes, sketching, art, and design. It began 10 years ago and will last a long time!
Who or what do you draw inspiration from?
A lot of things inspire me. It could be anything, from nature to disparate places.
What is most challenging in your field of work?
Perhaps not a challenge, but styling is never monotonous. There’s always something new and different to learn and do each day. No two days are the same, and I know for a fact that this is something I enjoy and look forward to! Having said that, I feel the downside of it is the last-minute, unexpected rush/change that comes with a strict deadline. Accomplishing that is an exciting task.
What are your interests apart from fashion and styling?
Travelling! I love to visit different countries and learn about their cultures. I also love dancing, yoga, and trying various foodstuffs; I’m a real foodie!
Who has been your best muse so far?
Late, Sridevi Kapoor, hands down. She has always been my best. While she always knew exactly what she wanted, she was one those actresses who had a fair knowledge of fabric, embroidery, quality of the design, and garment. A veteran actor with vast experience in her field, she had the knack of sensing quality and understanding fashion. Despite being such a legendary actress, she was always so down to earth! She looked like a diva in anything she wore.
What are the five must-haves in the male and female wardrobes?
For men: a black suit, a pair of denims, a white shirt, black formal shoes, and white sneakers.
For women: a little black dress, a white shirt, a well-fitted pair of denims, a black blazer/party jacket, and pairs of black and nude heels.
Who do you think is the most stylish today?
That spot goes to my all-time favourite client, Karisma Kapoor. She has always been, and continues to dress to the T!
Your style in one word.
What is a fashion faux pas for you?
Neon colours – they’re overrated!
What’s the one fashion trend you don’t like?
Tell us about your latest collection.
My latest pre-fall collection is called ‘Untamed Desert’, which I showcased at the Amazon India Fashion Week. It’s wearable, comfortable, and stylish. The play of silhouettes is for modern-day women who are fashionable and have a way of styling and presenting themselves. This line contains everything from holiday wear to destination bride ensembles. There are fluid fabrics and interesting cuts, like overlapping long trenches, drape skirts, and pant variations. It’s friendly on the pocket too! You can wear them in mix-and-match or style them in different ways; this has been my USP of the label throughout.
