The upcoming Disney live action remakes

List of  upcoming Disney live action remakes: 

1.    MULAN (27TH MARCH’2020)

Disney finally announced in October 2016 that a live action version of “Mulan”. The company is on a the global search for a Chinese actress to play the lead. The film will be directed by Niki Caro. In November 2017, a Chinese actress Liu Yifei has officially joined the cast of the title character. 

Liu has appeared in films including “The Forbidden Kingdom”, “Outcast”, and “The Chinese Widow”, and has been a brand ambassador for Dior, Tissot, Garnier, and Pantene.


The rest of the cast includes Utkarsh Ambudkhar (Mindy’s brother Rishi on The Mindy Project) and Ron Yuan (Marco Polo). Ambudkar will play a con artist named Skatch while Yuan will be Sergeant Qiang, second in command of the Imperial Regiment.Also actor, Yoson An will be playing Mulan’s love interest, who is a military recruit named Chen Honghui. 

Last but not the least Gong Li (plays the witch), Jason Scott Lee will be a warrior seeking revenge (villain). Donnie Yen as the commander and mentor to Mulan and Jet Li as the Emperor of China. 

2.    ALADDIN (2019)

On the Annual D23 Expo on July 15, Disney had announced the cast of the film: Canadian actor Mena Massoud will play Aladdin, with Naomi Scott taking on the role of Princess Jasmine and Will Smith portraying Genie.


In 2015, Disney has plans for a prequel called Genies but had the idea seemed to return to the lamp. 

3. The Lion King (July 19, 2019) 

Jon Favreau is announced to be the director of “The Lion King” in September 2016. Where Donald Glover joined as Simba and Beyoncé officially joined as the adult Nala. 

James Earl Jones will be playing the role of Simba’s dad Mufasa, on the other hand Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen will be playing as Timon and Pumbaa respectively. 

On July 15, 2017 Disney screened the first footage from the live-action remake to a crowd of 7,000 during D23.

4.    The little mermaid (TBA)

Lin Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken are all set to write new songs for the new movie. The classics will be out , as “Under the sea” or “Poor unfortunate souls.”


Sofia Coppola and Chloë Grace Morerz were previously supposed to do the movie but they dropped out. 

5.    Dumbo (March 29,2019) 

Tim Burton’s remake promises a “unique family story,” the script is by writer Ehren Kruger. Disney confirmed the news of Colin Farrell, Eva Green, Danny DeVito, and Michael Keaton to be part of the film, among the newcomers like Nico Parker and Finley Hobbins.

6.    Snow White (TBA)

The songwriter for the film will be Benj Pasek and justin Paul. They will create tunes to accompany the script written by Erin Cressida, it may get scary and dark. 


There will also be spin off movie called Rose Red, which is focuses on Snow White’s estranged sister. Here Rose would be a key player on the quest with Graumpy and company to break the sleeping curse and bring her sister back to life. 

7.    Pinocchio (TBA)

Pual Helmer will be the director of the movie, and the production is slated to begin in the fall of 2018. Warner Bros. also has been working on a remake of its own with Robert Downey Jr. starring in and Ron Howard directing.

8.    The sword in the stone (TBA) 

There is not a lot of information about who’s retelling the story of BB King Authur, but the fact that the “Game of thrones” writer-producer will be behind the script is assured. 

9.    Peter Pan (TBA)

Jeremy Sumpter’s 2003 “Peter Pan” movie is all set for a  remake. Pete’s Dragon director David Lowery promises a straightforward adaptation of the classic. Disney is also thinking of rolling out Tink, a live action film based on Tinker Bell. Reese Witherspoon was announced to play the teeny-tiny fairy, but not much has been revealed as of late.

10.     Winnie the Pooh (TBA)

Mare Foster is hired to direct Christopher Robin, a live action film of the story of Pooh’s BFF as an adult. According to reports, it is a family oriented version of Seth McFarlane’s Ted, sans dirty jokes. 

11.     Lady and the tramp (TBD)

Disney announced in March 2018 plans for a live action/CG hybrid version of the movie with Charlie Bean as the director for the film. 


But no official release date has been announced but the streaming service sets to launch in fall of 2019. 

12.     Cruella (2018)

It isn’t on one major character, nevertheless, the movie’s backstory is about villainess who can’t resist a good coat. Emma Stone was previously announced as the lead, which means she gets nominated for half a dozen awards again. 

13.     Prince charming (TBA)

It is not sure about which prince this movie is based on.  Mandeville Films/TV, who recently worked on Beauty and the Beast will also be producing this movie . 

14.     Fantasia (TBA)

This is going to be an adaptation of Fantasia’s closing sequence “Night on Bald Mountain”, where iconic winged creatures rise from the dead. Fantasia is arguably the scariest Disney movie ever.
