Understated Opulence

The lovely home of Mr. and Mrs. Rajbir Sethi in Magnolias, DLF Golf Course, Gurgaon is spread across a sprawling 10,000 square feet. A masterpiece of beautiful interiors, the duplex penthouse has been created by ace designers Hardesh and Monica Chawla of Essentia Environments.  Essentia is a pre-eminent design and build firm that has worked on prestigious projects across the country, Dubai and elsewhere.
Predominantly contemporary with straight-line design, the home is as global as it gets, showcasing furniture and artefacts from all over the world. Featuring a muted and earthy colour palate, the house uses white, beige and shades of light grey with splashes of colours introduced through a judicious selection of wall papers, objets d’art and other accessories. The furniture is an amalgamation of pieces imported from Europe and some manufactured by Essentia Environment’s production facility in Manesar. Statuario marble and grey Fleury floor coverings are used throughout much of the house, whereas white Bianco Carrara’s moon face marble dazzles in the master bathroom.
A striking feature of the duplex apartment is the double-height lobby with the picturesque view of the golf course and the lake beyond it. A gorgeous Artemide chandelier adds oomph to the space. The entrance to the house is from the lower floor, which also features a living area, a formal dining space, a large kitchen and a guest room. In the living room, the decor has been kept minimal with optimum use of beige and white as the base for furnishings and drapes. Comfortable leather and suede sofas provide the seating here, and these are matched with marble side tables, giving the space a clean and sophisticated look. Lighting plays a major role too, and the space has been furnished with some unique light fixtures and lamps. The dining area features a brown and white table that seats eight, paired with white and silver upholstered chairs. Mirrors comprise one of the walls in this room, while another features a striking painting. A white sideboard, modern chandelier and wooden panelling complete the interiors in this space. The guest bedroom on this floor features a king size bed with a leather headboard and matching side tables. One of the walls in this bedroom is adorned with silver fabric while the others are an understated white. The room has an attached balcony and a bathroom.
On the lower floor, an expansive terrace gives way to breathtaking views of the golf course and the lake. The floral pattern on the terrace floor brightens up the space, and makes it perfect for entertaining guests and hosting get togethers. Cozy outdoor furniture by Vondom completes the look. A half marble and half wooden staircase leads to the upper floor that comprises three bedrooms: one master bedroom and two bedrooms for the kids. The former covers half the floor and has an attached bathroom and dressing area. Lavishly designed, the master suite provides ample space for storage and features state-of-the-art furniture and fittings.
While the house is decked with several gorgeous paintings and artefacts, the most prominent one is the large piece by renowned Indian artist F.N. Souza. Another outstanding word is that of Baby Alec by Indian contemporary artist Chintan Upadhyay.
Overall this entrancing home is a delight for the eyes, and prides itself on excellent decor that showcases the family’s fondness for beauty and understated opulence.                                                                                                                                .....
