As a result, more and more kids are being diagnosed with attention deficit disorders (ADD).This is a chronic condition that can lead to a variety of behavioural problems, such as not being able to focus on school assignments, having a tough time following instructions, and not completing tasks on time. In addition to these issues, ADD can also lead to serious disciplinary issues.
Although there are a quite a few medications available for children diagnosed with ADD, many of them are not recommended for long-term use, as they can have harmful side effects. So instead of relying on medications, try out some of these effective ways to boost your child's attention and keep them well-focussed.
Exercise. Getting a good workout on a regular basis not only helps you stay in good health, but it’s also extremely beneficial for enhancing your focus and level of alertness. This is true for you as well as your child. Encourage your kid to exercise regularly, as even a few minutes of brisk walking will help combat the symptoms of ADD, improve their concentration, and make them more alert. Try some fun activities like swimming, biking, running, yoga, or dance.
Encourage active learning. A great way to enhance your child's concentration is to make learning more engaging and fun. As a parent or an instructor, you must allow children to express their opinions on various topics. This encourages them to store the information in their minds for a longer time and strengthens their critical thinking abilities. Some ideas for active learning are game-based learning platforms, rotating chair discussions, learning through role play, and reciprocal questioning.
Introduce a nutritious diet.Food plays an essential role during your child’s growing years. Along with a proper workout plan, children must be introduced to foods that are loaded with all the essential nutrients. Some great foods that can help build your child's concentration are fresh vegetables and fruits, eggs, lean beef, nuts, low-fat dairy products, cereal, bread, and fatty fish. On the other hand, avoid too much consumption of candy, caffeine, soda, frozen vegetables and fruits, cake mixes, excess sugar, and energy drinks.
Create mind maps. Developing mind maps is a tested and effective technique to combat issues related to memory in children. Mind mapping is a visual form of note taking wherein students are encouraged to create ideas and make notes related to the topic that is being taught. Implementing this technique helps kids put things in perspective, and increases their concentration levels.
