Food plays an essential role in your overall wellbeing. Although no single food can prevent any of the chronic and life threatening diseases like cancer and heart attacks, but making some healthy lifestyle changes will definitely reduce the risk.
The number of people being affected by cancer has been increasing at an alarming rate. According to the American Cancer Society, in order to stay healthy one must consume atleast five servings of fresh vegetables and fruits.
However eating foods that fight against cancer will only lower your risk of getting affected by this disease. Let us look at some of these foods.
1. Garlic- Often times, people do not prefer eating garlic due to its smell but guess what it has been associated with numerous health benefits. Garlic has sulphur compounds, which fight against cancer. This spice also contains selenium, flavonoids, arginine, oligasaccharides that are beneficial to your health. Numerous studies show that consuming garlic has been shown to prevent stomach, colon, breast, pancreas and esophagus cancer.
2. Fatty fish- Various type of fishes such as mackerel and salmon are loaded with several nutrients such as Omega 3 fatty acids and Vitamin D. It is also known to reduce the risk of cancer. The Omega 3 fatty acids are known to stop the growth of cancer cells.
3. Broccoli- This healthy vegetable contains a plant compound called sulforaphane, which is known to have anticancer properties. Eating cruciferous vegetables such as kale, broccoli, and cabbage are known to reduce the risk of developing colon and colorectal cancer.
4. Carrots- Eating carrots not only aids in better vision but it also decreases the risk of different type of cancer. Carrots contain all the essential minerals and nutrients, which lower the chances of developing stomach and prostate cancer.
5. Cinnamon- Next time you drink a glass of milk, add some cinnamon to it. Cinnamon is loaded with several health benefits. It suppresses the growth of cancer cells, which lead to neck and head cancer.
