Many people embark on a long-distance relationship at some point in time, whether it is a high school sweetheart with different college dreams or someone we meet at a study aboard program which turned into a long distance relationship. However long distance relationships come with its own challenges. The extra mile makes the simplest wishes such as being able to hold your partner’s hand, going out for dinner, feeling each other’s touch suddenly means so much more in a long distance relationship.
We have become so engrossed in our lives that it has become a challenge to stay connected with the people that we care. To keep our love alive and strong professor Carman Neustaedter’s from the Simon Frasier University in Britain Columbia, in 2016 has developed a pair of interconnected gloves called Flex-n-Feel gloves. The way this new device works is when ‘flex’ is present in one glove then the actions are transmitted to a remote partner wearing the other pair of gloves. There is a sensor attached to the gloves which enable the user to feel the movements. The sensors are placed on the palm side of the fingers in order to feel better. To capture the movements, the sensors are attached to a micro-controller. This device works through wifi. Neustaedter says, “The benefits of using this new module are couples who live in different parts of the world could make intimate gestures such as holding hands, touching the face and giving a hug”. Further he adds, “While one set of gloves enable one-way remote-touch between partners, a second set could allow both to share touches at the same time”. The device is currently being tested before it gets launched in the market.
