YouTube sensation, actor and singer Mithila Palkar has undoubtedly arrived on the Bollywood scene, achieving notable status with her versatility and stellar performances. In a brief career span, the 25-year-old stunner has managed to make heads turn among her indomitable fan base. Having an assortment of achievements under her belt – including advertisements, movies, short films, videos, web series, songs, and now a film with ace actor Irrfan Khan – she’s aiming to be tinsel town’s next big thing.
Apart from acting, you’re also interested in music. How’d you get started in that area?
I love music, and the catchy song ‘Hi Chal Turu Turu’ was what really brought me into the limelight and prompted some to call me a ‘powerhouse of talent’. So I guess I was doing something right! (Smiles)
Can you tell us what you’re currently working on?
I am working on a web series, and I’m also doing some theatre shows.
When did you first know you were interested in acting?
I never looked at acting like a job. For me it was a way of doing what I loved to do: entertaining people. I always wanted to be on stage. The first time I was on stage was at the age of 12, and I instantly knew that that was what I wanted to do. It was something more than a passion. My family was very conservative about me being in the industry, and I don’t have a godfather in the industry; but I made it through all odds.
How did you overcome all the challenges that are common in the industry?
I truly believe that you need to believe in yourself, trust your instincts and keep at it to be successful. That’s exactly what I have been doing, and it has helped me overcome all the challenges.
What’s the one thing that keeps you going?
Work. And sleep… I love to sleep! Only work can make me give up sleep.
How do you manage to stay so fit and stylish?
(Laughs). People who know me know that I am more of a pajama person. I am more than happy in pajamas. Fashion is comfort, and I never dress to please people. I am grateful to have a wonderful stylist who helps me look gorgeous at the drop of a hat. In terms of fitness, I love to do it because I enjoy it, not because I have to. I believe in doing things that make me happy.
Who is your role model?
Hands-down, it has to be Priyanka Chopra, because of her relentless work ethic and passion. She is someone I look up to, for sure. – as told to Suneela
