A super typhoon that was captured in spectacular photographs from outer space

Incredible images of Super Typhoon Maysak from above have been captured by astronauts at the International Space Station.

NASA astronaut Terry Virts, who has a breathtaking view of super Typhoon Maysak from outer space, tweeted photos of the storm. While passing over the weather system this week, European Space Agency astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti captured a photo of the stormSuper Typhoon Maysak formed on March 27 as a tropical depression.

The typhoon strengthened and  approached Category 5 hurricane status on the Saffir-Simpson Wind Scale and is just north of Palau in the Pacific Ocean. According to AccuWeather.com, Super Typhoon Maysak is one of the strongest cyclones in history during the months of January, February and March. It has slammed several Micronesian islands, killing 5 people, and is now on its way to the Philippines. As of early on April 1, Maysak had sustained winds of 240 kph (150 mph), equivalent of a Category 4 hurricane. Gusts as high as 390 kph (180 mph) are possible with this storm.
