Skincare Secrets

The weather is changing and the city has greeted the first showers with open arms. But a combination of the sun and heavy winds laden with dust can be harmful to the skin, and calls for some extra care and attention. We take a peek again into Granny’s diary and find some effective home remedies to bring that extra glow to your skin this season.

•    A mixture of milk powder and honey makes an effective skin enhancer. It not only increases the brightness of the skin but also does a great job moisturising. Make a paste and apply it to your face, leave it on for a while for glowing skin. This is an excellent home remedy for skin that’s been exposed to the sun, as it removes the melanin. Add a few drops of almond oil for an even better effect.
•    Dry orange peel in the shade and grind into a fine powder. Mix with yoghurt and use as a face mask. This is very effective for oily skin, as it soaks up the excess oil while leaving the skin soft and supple.
•    Try a face pack using two tablespoons of chickpea flour and one tablespoon of lime or lemon juice. This mixture makes an excellent exfoliant, as it gets rid of all the dead skin cells (that form the top layer of the skin) giving a glow to the skin while improving its texture.

Curd and lemon

•    To brighten up a dull complexion, mix a little yeast with half a teaspoon of tomato puree and a few drops of honey. Apply for about 15-20 minutes, and rinse with warm water.
•    A mixture of olive oil, almond oil and jojoba oil with a few drops of rose water makes a nourishing moisturiser. Use regularly and be prepared to be amazed at the results!
•    With its citric content, freshly squeezed tomato juice is an excellent base for a face wash. For oily skin, add a few drops of lemon juice.
•    To make a good natural cleanser for dry skin, make a mixture with honey, coconut milk and tomato juice. Dip a cotton ball and massage gently on the face. Once dry, rinse with cold water.

•    The juice of a single lemon, combined with a spoonful of sugar, makes an excellent scrub for glowing skin.
•    The inside of a papaya or an apple peel makes an excellent skin cleanser. Rub the peel on your face with gentle upward strokes, and allow it to dry naturally. Wash with cold water and pat dry with a soft towel. This also helps lighten the skin.
•    In a hurry? Here’s a quick remedy: try rubbing an ice cube on your face in a circular motion for a few minutes before putting on your makeup. This improves blood circulation and also keeps the skin healthy.

•    Regular use of cucumber juice as a face mask not only refreshes the skin but also tightens the pores.
•    A paste made from fenugreek seeds soaked overnight helps remove blackheads naturally, and also gets rid of excess oil.
•    Mix the juice from half an orange with two tablespoons of yogurt. Massage lightly on the face using upward strokes. Wash with cold water and see the natural glow on the skin!
