One of the many problems, people with severely damaged cornea face is finding the right cornea donor for transplant; hence in order to address this serious issue, scientists have done research and invented a 3D-printed artificial cornea.
This 3D-printed artificial cornea is made using bioink, which is made of stem cells and decellularised corneal stroma. Scientists from the Kyungpook National University and Pohang University of Science and Technology in South Korea have invented this cornea. This artificial cornea's transparency is similar to the human cornea and it is biocompatible. This cornea looks similar to a soft contact lens.
