Occupying 10,000 sq. ft of space, Mamatha Tulluri’s in SR Nagar has been one of the city’s pre-eminent high-end bridal stores ever since it opened in 2008. A reformed dentist with a love for bridal trousseau and handlooms, Mamatha’s boutique reflects her varied design, appealing to both youngsters and adults alike. While the luxury behemoth consists of furnished racks with well-appointed dressing rooms, the atmosphere in here is more modern than frilly. A sensual play with pastels and more muted, sunset colours, to palettes that range from peacock blue to salmon pink, the store’s philosophy seems to be, ‘the flashier the better’.
However, the variety is the highlight here. The latest bridal collection is a fusion of traditional and contemporary designs, like a long parade of floor-length anarkalis, embroidered sarees imbued with golden hues, and an occasional lehanga in bright shades and heavy embellishments. They also have the finest hand-woven textiles for their clothing, be it tussar, kanjeevaram, chanderi or kota. One can choose their fabric and give it to the designer, who will customise it exactly to your specifications. And it’s not just the brides; the store has something for everyone, be it the bridesmaids, family, or even regular guests. Though minimal, the embellishments on them remain just as intricate. Other than handlooms, the materials used are mostly georgette, velvet, tissue, and brocade, embellished with dainty embroidery and Swarovski stones. There is also elegant wedding wear for men, that includes contemporary kurtas, bandhgalas and even tailored sherwanis that can be teamed up with Jodhpuri pants which have been carefully designed or hand-picked by the designer. There is literally something for just about everybody in this designer studio.
