Saudi Arabian women driving again

Saudi Arabian women celebrate as they are legally allowed to drive now.

At the stroke of midnight, for the first time in decades after a long ban on female drivers, women could freely take a drive around the city. Before this they had to be chauffeured around.

Women are granted permission to drive upon the royal orders by the crown prince Mohammed Bin Salman last September. This brought a 30-year long campaign battle to end.

By now around 200 women have official driver’s licenses. The sad part is the rights activist; several women and their male supporters, who have spearheaded the campaign are still in prison or are accused of reason or with a possibility of 20-year prison sentence.
