During the trip, Don had several memorable experiences, which he was happy to share with us. “Taking a day trip boat ride to Bond Island, the lagoons, exploring the caves and limestone structures in a self-navigated canoe, and relaxing on the beautiful beaches on Phan Nga Bay were some experiences I will remember for a long time.”
The group’s first stop was world-famous Bangkok. After spending the day visiting Chang Mai, Wat Saket, Wat Benchamabophit and being stunned by the beauty of the temples, a shopping spree for souvenirs at Chatuchak Market followed. Then the boys decided to spend the night experiencing the much talked-about Bangkok nightlife. They dropped into several sky bars and clubs, and were not the least bit disappointed by the crazy party scene.
After Bangkok, they travelled to Koh Samui, where they rode around the hills on dirt bikes and visited Chaweng and Lamai Beaches. This island is a place to unwind where one can just relax on the beach, or take elephant safaris and ATV rides along the hills to experience a scenic view. “You need to unwind after Bangkok,” Don explained. “Another great way to unwind, apart from spending leisure time on the lovely beaches and taking in the picturesque scenery, is to get a Thai massage. It’s one of the best massages you can have; they absolutely live up to their name and are inexplicably relaxing after a long day of touring the place.”
Don and his friends made their last stop in Phuket, where they visited the Buddha Temple, situated atop the Nakkerd Hills, which they reached on the back of an elephant. Once there, the view was amazing with a clear blue-green coastline and several small scattered islands. They then visited Patong and Karon beaches.
“They were the most scenic beaches with teal blue water and pleasant weather which, when accompanied by a few beers can be your Zen time,” he adds. He also recommended visits to Koh Phi, Kaho Phing Kan, and Krabi Islands, which are close to Phuket. The trio spent their last night in Phuket on Bangla Road, a stretch of road that is filled with nightclubs, bars, pumping music, and bright lights, ending on a beach.
When asked if the trip was all that he had hoped for it to be, Don responded enthusiastically. “Thailand is a very affordable place to visit, with amazingly sweet people, delicious street food with everything from seafood to frogs, beautiful beaches, captivating small islands, breath-taking views, wild nightlife, and luxurious resorts. I couldn’t have asked for a more well-rounded experience and wide exposure, in spite of the limited time we hand on our hands.”
