Olympic silver-medalist PV Sindhu is all set to begin her quest for the first title of the season as the Australia Open World Tour Super 300 tournaments begin with the qualifiers in Sydney today.
World No. 5 Sindhu made a couple of semi-final and quarter final appearances, but still has not managed to win a title this year. What has been disappointing is that Sindhu has lost to top players such as Carolina Marin, Sung Ji Hyun, Nozomi Okuhara etc. opponents with whom she had the upper hand last year.
At the Australian Open, Sindhu will have to overcome former Olympic champion, Li Xuerui and All England Champion Chen Yufei for a place in the quarter and semifinals, respectively.
The other players who comprise the Indian badminton squad include, Sameer Verma, Sai Praneeth, HS Prannoy and Parupalli Kashyap. In the doubles category, we have Ashwini Ponnappa-Sikki Reddy, Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty and Manu Attri-Sumeeth Reddy. Our mixed doubles team consists of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa. We also have Lakshya Sen, former Asia junior champion participating in this tournament
