“Padmavat” Gets A Release Date

After a series of prolonged controversies on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s periodic drama film “Padmavat”, which was earlier titled as “Padmavati” finally has a release date on
January 26th 2018.

The periodic drama film features Deepika Padukone as the Rajput queen Rani Padmini, Shahid Kapoor will be playing the role of Rani Padmini’s husband Rawal Ratan Singh and
Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khalji.  The film’s title has been changed to “Padmavat” after Malik Muhammad Jayasi's poem with the same name, on which the film is based.

“Padmavat”, which is slated to release on January 26th 2018 will not be released in Rajasthan. Chief minister Vasundhara Raje gave a statement saying, “Rani Padmini's sacrifice is a matter of honour and pride for the state and hence Rani Padmini is not just a chapter in history but our dignity. We will not allow defamation of her honour”. Apart from changing the title, the filmmakers have been asked to make changes to the ‘Ghoomar’ song.
