Monsoon Makeup Trends

Summer is almost slipping away, the weather’s becoming less reliable, and we’ve got that back-to-school feeling that monsoon often brings along with it. As we say goodbye to the warmer days, we’re fully embracing the monsoons this year, thanks to the trends that came out of the runways.

While the clothes are the main event at the fashion month, we never pass up the chance to try new beauty tricks. From Val Garland to Pat McGrath, some of the world’s most prestigious makeup artists created bold looks that’ll brighten up your day, including graphic eyeliner and just-kissed lips. Monsoons may traditionally be about earthier tones, but this season was more vivid than ever. Brush off your nudes and read ahead to see our favourite mood-enhancing beauty looks!

Dewy Skin
If there ever is a time to tone down your makeup, this is the season. Not a new trend, but this dewy complexion has taken precedence over heavy makeup this summer. Every fashionista’s dream, to attain this no makeup look, make sure you first get an appointment with your facialist. First, apply a vitamin-rich serum to seriously boost your skin's radiance. Next, layer on a lightweight moisturizing primer with SPF and then apply a tinted moisturizer or foundation to even out skin tone and seed that pretty sheen. Add luster with a subtle highlighter that will catch the light beautifully. Then try a liquid luminizer like Sephora Collection Radiant Luminizing Drops or Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Highlight in Hefty Highlight and dab it on lightly with your fingertips to camouflage any discolouration.

Graphic Eyeliner
Whether it’s in the form of a cat eye, an upside down cat eye or geometric liner, bold black eye pencil is a must-have magic wand this season, ladies. So if you don’t already own it – are you kidding us? Pick some up and get playing. We swear by Clé de Peau Beauté Intensifying Liquid Eyeliner for a versatile cat-eye that's great for both work and a night out with some tiny graphic lines.  You see, classic doesn’t have to be boring and this year’s take with graphic eyeliner proves just that!

Bold and Bronzed
If you are reluctant of a no-makeup look, then try the fresh, glowing, sun-kissed and subtle-bronzed face. A quick fix for all our makeup woes, bronzer is easier to use than, say a blush or a foundation, but the make-up product of the season is surely a tricky one to apply. To wear a bronzer right, ensure you choose a soft, neutral shade bronzer that’s no more than two shades darker than your skin tone. This way, you can not only deepen your skin tone but also get a more chiselled look. Also, avoid shimmer bronzer.  Trust us when we say this but too much of shimmer only makes your skin look sweaty and oily. Now you don’t want that, do you?

For that fresh-from-the-beach effect, we recommend RMS Buriti Bronzer and Shiseido Make-up Bronzer in Medium.

Bright Lips
Be it bubble gum pink, lilac, red-orange or flaming red – the best investment you can make this season is buying a dozen of bright lip shades that would match your mood perfectly.
To master a bold lip, begin by applying Burt’s Bees Pomegranate Moisturizing Lip Balm. Follow this by lining your lips with the lip pencil. Then apply the lipstick, starting at the center of the upper lip and moving outward toward one corner. Bring the lipstick back to the center and run it outward toward the other corner. Repeat with the lower lip. To fill in any missing color, dab the lipstick with your pinky, then dot the colour onto your lips with the finger. Make sure once applied, you blot your lips a few times with a tissue. This will take off any excess lipstick and will help your lips remain soft and smooth.

Perfect Plum
If you are tired of that age-old black smoky eye, it’s an indication that you might want to replace it with something more inspired and bolder – like with the plum eye shadow. And a shimmer one in that. Perfect! To get the modern and edgy look, first apply a glittery purple eyeliner pencil from your upper eyelids to your crease, like Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner, extending and blending it past your outer corner. Now swipe the eyeliner to your lower eyelids and connect both the lines at the outer corner. Once done, layer on Morphe x Jaclyn Hill The Vault Bling Boss Eyeshadow Palette from your upper eyelids to your crease. Further, extend it into a cat-eye and blend it softly to create a perfect smoky eye in plum. Glam, innit?       – Anisha and Pics: IANS and PTI
