Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, also a commoner turned royal, was born in Argentina as Máxima Zorreguieta Cerruti in 1971. In April 2013, she became the first Latin American-born queen consort in the history of the Netherlands. She is the wife of King Willem-Alexander. Queen Máxima actively works for social issues such as that of the integration of minorities and creating financing opportunities to empower women. She is one of the very few royal members who openly show their strong support for the rights of those in the LGBTQ sector.
Her versatility and ability to try different trends has made her a popular icon among fashion lovers around the world. She may be spotted in a high-end designer dress one day, or in a printed jumpsuit the next, or even in a classic skirt on a sunny day! Her love for clothes is apparent, and she clearly has fun with the way she puts together an ensemble. As the royal family is called the House of Orange, Maxima takes any opportunity to wear orange. She mixes colours marvellously, and is very playful when it comes to accessorising – with big earrings, statement necklaces, gloves, wonderful bags, and quirky hats of all kinds. - Pic: koninklijkhuis.nl for Wikimedia Commons
