Kate Spade foundation to donate $1 million to prevent suicide

Kate Spade New York has announced through Instragram that it will donate more than $1 million to mental health causes and suicide prevention.

This initiative is taking place after the tragic loss of the creative director and co-founder, Katherine Noel Brosnahan, who along with her husband sold all their shares in 2006.

Spade, who co-founded the company in 1993, had committed suicide on June 5th at the age of 55. She was known for her whimsical personality and analogous designs.

The first donation of $250,000 was to Crisis Text Line, which is a non-profit organization, that provides crisis intervention via text message. The remaining $750,000 will go to other mental health causes and suicide prevention causes.
