Dr Praveen finished his Post Graduation in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics from Dr NTR University of Health Sciences. With over a decade of experience and being amongst the top 1% of Invisalign providers in India, he is now continuing his research on reducing the time of orthodontic treatment and improving the evidence. He is currently working in collaboration with Dr Nandakumar Janaki Raman (Professor at the University of Louisville, USA).

We had the opportunity to talk with Dr Praveen about his personal and professional drive and how Invisalign has given him a new lease on life as an orthodontist.
What prompted you to set up this new facility?

Invisalign is the popular trend lately, is this as effective as traditional braces?
While worn, Invisalign aligners are subtle and barely noticeable, but they still provide effective treatment with predictable, long-lasting results. In fact, in certain cases, Invisalign treatment may be even more effective than braces, due to the all-around force of the aligners across the whole tooth.
Invisalign aligners are designed to help straighten teeth without the hassle, restriction and expense of traditional braces. One of the benefits of choosing this system is the freedom to eat and drink without making any major dietary changes since there are no food restrictions with Invisalign.
Is treatment time shorter with one vs the other?
Invisalign typically works much faster than braces. A clear aligner works to apply gentle pressure to the teeth together, as opposed to each tooth, as braces do. Therefore, Invisalign is faster than braces. Invisalign treatment duration can be as short as three months, and the average duration is five-seven months, although you can start seeing results in a matter of weeks.
The digital workflow of Invisalign has reduced the number of clinic visits for patients and improved clinical efficiency by using high-end technology in orthodontics, which made my treatment plans more accurate and precise. By visualising the end treatment results even before starting the treatment, my patients get more confidence in getting their orthodontic treatment done.
What about comfort?
Invisalign is significantly less painful than braces. Over the years, Invisalign has continually improved the comfort and accuracy of its product. One of the advantages of Invisalign is that it’s removable. You can (and should) take them out when you’re eating or drinking.

Are there situations where somebody would be better off with traditional braces over clear aligners?
With advanced digital orthodontics and digital cephalometrics, any complex case can be treated and pre-visualized even before the start. With the Invisalign system, treating complicated cases has become advanced and accurate. To be precise, in my opinion, treating complex cases with Invisalign has become easier than traditional braces.
What are the most important technological advances you have seen? Do you foresee a big change in our diagnosis and treatment procedures as a result of this technology?
At Park Dental Care, we have hand-picked our technology like an in-house 5D intra-oral scanner, that better detects and treats caries/ decay in the tooth without exposing the patient to radiation using NIRI technology. Laser dentistry has also revolutionized dental care as it is more convenient and a relatively bloodless treatment option compared to surgery. It allows us to do routine procedures without drills, injections or scalpels.
It is more precise and less invasive.
Guided implant surgery is a computer-controlled procedure for dental implants. Compared to traditional dental implant surgery, guided implant surgery provides more accurate results. A cone-beam CT scanner captures high-quality 3D images of the patient’s mouth. These images help the dentist get the visual detail of the mouth to locate the exact surgical site. Also, cone-beam CT is safe as it utilizes less radiation.
With modern techniques and tools, we can provide the highest quality of dental care and a better experience for patients. Digital technologies are more reliable and give us accurate scans and faster results (less time at the dentist), with the ability to spot dental issues even before they occur.
How do you relax in your spare time? How do you balance work and family life?
Having a priority list helps me stay focused on important tasks. It also helps me to finish everything on time so that I can enjoy some time with my family after a hard day’s work. I have been employing this strategy for a few years now and have found that this works best for me to achieve a healthy work-life balance. I am backed by a team of amazing doctors, nurses and assistants who handle everything well. They help me keep work in perspective. I set priorities, plan and do things in advance. In my free time, I listen to podcasts and music. I love travelling and exploring new places.
