International School of Hyderabad

With emphasis on ‘international’ - Dr. Oli Tooher-Hancock
Nestled on the 3,600-acre grounds of the International Crop Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), the International School of Hyderabad (ISH) with its incredible facilities is a very special, privileged and unique school to attend.
We celebrate true diversity and internationalism, and as part of the newly formed International Schools Activities Conference, India (ISACI), our varsity swim team recently travelled to Stonehill International School in Bengaluru. The roster line-up boasted American, Australian, British, Danish, French, German, Indian, New Zealand, South African, Spanish, Swedish and Swiss nationals. ISH is truly an international experience, and that is what sets us apart.
Every month, we have an information morning for parents and students. In April, we met with our current eighth graders to discuss life in high school and their four-year plans. We will be meeting with each student and their parents individually to discuss the best academic tracks for him/her.
Our curriculum in grades 9 and 10 is IGCSE, and in 11 and 12 the IB Diploma. However, we also run an ISH diploma concurrently from grades 9-12, which equates to a regular American high school diploma accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). This gives our students access to North American colleges and other universities around the world without the completion of the full IB Diploma. We offer blended, rigorous education to meet the needs of each student. Our high school is small and dynamic, allowing us to give individual attention.
Our team is extensive and experienced. For a high school of 70 or so students, we have a divisional principal, IGCSE coordinator, IBDP coordinator, college counsellor, personal counsellor, director of teaching and learning, and head of school. The latter two have worked at the high school level in various roles at numerous international schools around the globe for over 20 years, and so bring insight into the many issues facing students in this age group. We see our role as helping students develop as independent learners and thinkers, and to prepare them for a successful university life and beyond.
As most of our graduates attend university in North America, we have the support of the US College Board. We have the ability for students to sit for the PSAT and Advanced Placement (AP) exams. The feel of the campus is like that of a regular international high school, with somewhat of a relaxed yet focused feel. There is also a strong sense of mutual respect amongst teachers and students, and so we rarely have any disciplinary issues.
Our end goal? Ultimately, we aim for our students not only to experience a rigorous academic curriculum, but to live the IB mission of developing inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
