The International Day of Happiness: Ways to find happiness

On March 20th the entire world celebrates ‘ The International Day of Happiness’.  The concept of world happiness day was introduced by the United Nations, as a way to recognise the importance of happiness in the lives of people around the world. 

The outbreak of the deadly virus has indeed made our lives uncertain than ever before.Certainly a sense of fear and anxiety can leave you feeling extremely disturbed and unsure of how to lead your life during these difficult times. One of the best ways to cope in these trying times is to stay happy and focus on positivity.

On the occasion of the international day of happiness, let us look at some ways to stay positive and happy.

Focus on eating healthy- When it comes to changing your lifestyle routine, you must pay attention to what you're feeding your body. Food only plays a vital role in physical wellbeing but even mental health. You must intake foods high in carbohydrates like vegetables, beans and whole grains. These foods promote feel good hormone- serotonin. Along with carbohydrates, your body needs protein. So make sure you're eating protein rich foods like eggs, chicken, milk, broccoli. These foods energize your mind and body.

Be grateful for everything you have- One of the best ways to maintain a positive state of mind and body is to be thankful for everything you are blessed with in life. According to some studies practising gratitude on a daily basis has shown to improve your state of mind. Start and end your day by offering your gratitude to god for everything that he had blessed you with.

Exercise- Apart from eating nutritious foods, it is also essential to indulge in physical activity on a regular basis. Regular exercise has shown to reduce stress, and depression. Exercise is one of the best ways to boost self-esteem and happiness. Spend some time in a day to indulge in yoga, meditation, brisk walking or cycling.

Rest well- No matter how much you exercise or feed your body with healthy food, you will only be able to stay happy and healthy when you rest your body and mind well. On an average, most adults need about 7 to 8 hours of sleep.

Communicate with loved ones- A lot of people try to isolate themselves from the world when they are under stress. This is not a healthy habit. You should communicate with your loved ones or someone you trust. If you're still having trouble controlling stress or anxiety, seek help from an expert.          - Akhila
