Indonesian Fashion Designer Made a Political Statement at New York Fashion week.

Everyone of us eagerly waits for the biggest fashion event which is the New York Fashion Week (NYFW). Fashion weeks are all about flaunting stunning ensemble, posing for the paparazzi, - and watching myriads of spectacular shows. In the recent New York Fashion Week renowned designers such as Tom Ford, Rebecca Minkoff, Karen Walker, Calvin Klein displayed their collections. But what stood out to be the most unique collection was by Indonesian fashion designer Anniesa Hasibuan. She made history in the fashion industry by showcasing the world’s first all-hijab collection.

 In a recent interview Anniesa told that one of the purposes behind choosing Islamic models to wear her clothes was to show that women who wear hijab can be glamorous and stylish like other women. This Indonesian designer was bestowed with an opportunity to show that Islam women are beautiful in the New York Fashion Week.

When asked about the reason behind choosing women who wear hijab, Anniesa told the outlet that she believes in equal opportunity for all, particularly if he or she is talented, passionate and has the skill set that is required. By selecting Islamic women the designer not only proved that they are beautiful but can also contribute to the States. Anniesa also made a strong political statement which is not to discriminate people on their origin. According to Anniesa, fashion is an open world where there should be no discrimination. People who had come to see the show were so impressed by her collection that she had received a lengthy standing ovation.
