Indian Wrestler Vinesh Phogat wins a gold medal in Yasar Dogu 2019 Ranking Series

Indian Wrestler, Vinesh Phogat, after taking home a gold medal in the 2019 Spain Grand Prix earlier this month, once again bagged a gold medal in the Yasar Dogu 2019 Ranking Series in Istanbul.

24 year old, Vinesh Phogat became the first Indian athlete to be nominated for the prestigious Laureus World Sports Award. She was born in Haryana to a successful family of wrestlers. Her cousins Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat are winners of the commonwealth games and also international wrestling games. 

Vinesh took home gold medal in both the Asian games and the commonwealth games. This Arjuna Awardee put forward a mind-blowing performance at the Yasar Dogu 2019 Ranking Series with a score of 11-1, 7-0, 14-4, 9-5. She won this medal in the 53kg category. 

Two other Indian wrestlers, Divya Kakran and Pooja Dhanda did not reach the medal rounds but played well. Pooja lost in the quarterfinals. On the other hand, Divya could not clear the qualification round.
