Lesedi La Rona – translated into English means ‘Our Light’. It is indeed a fitting name for the world’s biggest emerald cut diamond. Just the sheer size of this stone will impress everyone, but what’s more fascinating is its exceptional quality! At over 300 carat, it is the biggest of its kind in the whole world. It has the highest clarity and colour grades from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).
These days, it is rare to see a diamond making global news, but this one is worth all the praise. The finished emerald cut diamond was a cut from a massive 1,109-carat rough diamond, which was acquired by Graff for $53 million. The original diamond was so big that it could not be analyzed or cut with the existing equipment and technology. This precious stone weighs an exact 302.37 carats and was found in Botswana’s Lucara Karowe mine. Over an intense period of 18 months and with the help of some of the world’s most talented diamond cutters, the rough stone was carved into an extraordinary gem and 66 smaller, satellite diamonds that range anywhere from one to 26 carats in weight! - Courtesy: Luxatic.com
