Google Doodle pays tribute to Steve Irwin

If you’ve opened Google, you will have noticed that the Google Doodle for today is of the famed Australian wildlife conservationist, Steve Irwin, on the occasion of his 57th birthday.

Stephen Robert Irwin also known as 'The Crocodile Hunter' was a popular television personality, conservationist, and zookeeper. Along with his wife, Terri, Irwin co-hosted the television series ‘Crocodile Hunter’.  He operated and owned the Australia Zoo, which was founded by his parents. At the young age of nine, Steve volunteered with Queensland's East Coast Crocodile Management Program where he helped relocate and capture endangered saltwater crocodiles.

In the year 2001, Steve Irwin was bestowed with the Centenary Medal for Lifetime of Service and nominated for the Australian of the Year in 2004. He was also the man with the vision behind a number of accomplishments, one of which was the discovery of a new species of turtle, named the 'Elseya Irwini'. Through his extensive work and exceptional courage, the brave-heart left a legacy for himself that people are bound to remember for a long time to come!      -Akhila Kakarala
