Google dedicates a special doodle to celebrate the 218th birth anniversary of Belgian physicist, Joseph Antoine Ferdinand Plateau.
This Belgian physicist is known for inventing an innovative device called phenakistiscope, which is used to create illusion of a moving image. It is with the help of this device that led to the onset of cinema. Some of the works for which he is best known are the creation of physiological optics, which helps to study the effects of colour and light on human retina. He also worked on a project which explained how images form on the retina and how long they last for.
