First Black Muslim to Win an Oscar Award-Mahershala Ali

There are numerous reasons to applaud the victory of the movie moonlight, as it bagged quite a few awards at the prestigious 89th Academy Awards. One of the reasons Moonlight is in the limelight is because a Black Muslim man won in the Best Supporting Actor award in Trump's America. Mahershala Ali is the fifth African and the first ever Muslim man to take home an Oscar.

The first time nominated versatile actor Ali, was portrayed as a Miami drug dealer who mentors a young boy who is being teased and bullied in a heart wrenching coming of age drama film Moonlight. It was a busy year for Ali who started with a Netflix series Luke Cage, along with another role in an Oscar-nominated movie Hidden Figure. The Actor paid tribute to his teachers and director Barry Jenkins in his acceptance speech. He also thanked his wife, announcing that she just gave birth to a baby girl. Through the movie Moonlight, Mahershala Ali is now being recognised by a larger audience for winning  both the Oscar and the Screen Actors Guild Awards for Best Supporting Actor. , He was one of the nominees for the category of Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Globe. Lately Mahershala Ali is seen in the limelight for delivering a phenomenal performance in the movie moonlight.
