A humble lady who is passionately committed to transforming healthcare across India, using efficient and effective technology, Sangita is also a great role model for women empowerment. She, along with her father and sisters, are the force behind one of the largest hospital chains in India, Apollo Hospitals.
You and your sisters are great role models for women in India since all four of you are working women. What do you attribute your success to?
The first thing I would say is that we have super inspiring parents. I also attribute the success to the Apollo environment. There is a central purpose in life when you’re working in healthcare, where one is always working for the betterment of society. These two factors have been the main reasons behind a lot of my success.
What is the most rewarding part of what you do?
Undoubtedly, seeing people get better (smiles).
Is there a particular aspect of your work that you would like to give a special mention to?
The foundations, that create a holistic model for better healthcare for rural India, are a very important part of my life. Livelihood generation for women is also important because when you put money into the hands of women, the health of the household improves.
What do you look forward to most in your day?
There are lots of nice things; a patient getting well is always a nice feeling. Going home in the evening and discussing my day with my family is always very satisfying. And now with WhatsApp, it is so easy to be in touch with old friends and all my sisters.
What are some of your other passions and hobbies?
I am fond of outdoor activities. Last year, as a family we went scuba diving in the Maldives. It was absolutely incredible. I also did the Mount Kailash trek, which was enjoyable. Simple everyday things like music and reading also gives me a lot of joy.
