Blogging Her Way to the Top - Pallavi Singh

From a corporate job as an epidemiologist to a fulltime blogger, Pallavi Singh has come a long way. She may have started her blog to pass time on the weekends while she was working in Hyderabad, but she has now become one of the leading bloggers and influencers of Delhi and India. Her blog focuses on fashion, food, health and wellness but above all, it’s a reflection of who Pallavi really is. She was always called “that Delhi girl”—whether it was during her college days in Pilani or her working days in Hyderabad, and hence, she named her blog That Delhi Girl. We chatted with her about her work and how she keeps up with the times, and here’s what she had to say!

What is it like to be a blogger and influencer in the current times? What does it take to get to where you are?
Honestly, I am yet to figure that out myself (laughs). I remember when I started blogging, it was still a very fresh concept that most people didn’t have an understanding of and now, it’s a huge shift, so much so that everyone’s trying to be a part of this industry, in whatever capacity they can. It’s definitely tougher now, there are always different options for a client or a follower to engage with, there are fresher faces and newer concepts and you have no other option but to keep up with the times and evolve every minute.

For me, having been around for a while, if there’s one thing that I have learnt and that has helped me get to wherever I am, is a) consistency and b) not letting what others are doing or what they have achieved, get to me. I keep my head down and focus on my own work!

How did it all begin?
I started blogging to kill time, to be honest. I had a typical mentally consuming corporate job in Hyderabad back then and I needed a creative, fun outlet and so this happened. Over time, things picked up and I quit my job and took up blogging/ being an influencer (although I dislike this term!) full time.

The last two years have been tough for the entire world, but as an influencer, you have to constantly be innovative and create content no matter what the situation. How did you stay positive and create content through these tough times?
I honestly took a pseudo sabbatical. I know a lot of people were creating content even more during those times as people were spending a lot more time on screen and so it wasthe perfect opportunity to gain more traction/followers, but I just couldn’t. I was mostly focusing on my own mental health and well-being and instead, started talking about social issues to make my platform of at least some purpose beyond what it was.

The recently concluded Met Gala saw innovative yet eclectic fashion. What is your take on it and who according to you was the best dressed?
It has to be Kim Kardashian, purely for the shock value! I don’t think anyone else at this point knows how to make a statement better than her!

How do you deal with trolls?
I actually don’t. Trolls thrive on attention, so you don’t give them any.

Social media is always evolving. How do you keep up with the times?
I try my best to stay relevant and my team helps me too! I am constantly trying to offer something different yet stay as real as I can.

Is there money in blogging or is it all about making a name?
There’s always money, you just need to have that business acumen and strategy for it.

Do you endorse brands or products that you do not resonate with?
Never, my credibility and people’s trust in me is more important to me than a brand or the money they have to offer.

What does fashion mean to you?
An expression of myself, on most days what I am wearing has a lot to do with how I am feeling!

You are most comfortable wearing…
A tank top with mom jeans or PJs and sneakers.

You seem to be quite a fitness fanatic. What’s your regime like?
I try to stay in calorie deficit on most days and be mindful of what I consume (without compromising on my taste buds because I am a total foodie), and workout 4/5 days a week.

Now that international travel is slowly opening up, which destination do you want to visit next?
I have a huge list but at this point I don’t mind going literally anywhere, I just want to travel and explore a new country!                       -as told to Niharika
