Every time you eat a slice of pizza or bite on your favourite cheese, are you having discomfort in your stomach? Then probably you are suffering from lactose intolerance.Lactose intolerance is a digestive problem caused by the inability to digest lactose, which is a main carbohydrate in dairy products. The symptoms of this common digestive problem develop within a few minutes of having dairy products. Some of the common occurring symptoms are bloating, stomach pain and cramps, diarrhoea, vomiting, flatulence, and gas.

There are two variations of lactose intolerance: Primary and secondary. The primary lactose intolerance is most common and it caused due to a decrease in lactase production with age. One of the leading causes of this form of lactose intolerance is due to genes. On the other hand, the secondary lactose intolerance is caused due to illness such as a bug in your stomach or inflammation in the gut.

1.    Yogurt- For people with lactose intolerance, yogurt is one of the best foods to consume. Yogurt consists of live active cultures that help to break down lactose prior to consumption. This type of culture generally does not produce these symptoms. However people with severe lactose intolerance might be allergic to yogurt, hence these people must avoid consumption of yogurt. 

2.    Take probiotics- Taking probiotic supplements is very essential for those of you suffering from lactose intolerance. Probiotics help in keeping your digestive tract healthy. They increase the growth of healthy bacteria in your gut, which aids in proper digestion. 

3.    Consumes foods rich in Vitamin k- Along with calcium, our body needs Vitamin K in order for good bone health. This Vitamin helps in regulating the hormones and enhances the brain functions. Generally, people with lactose intolerance have Vitamin K deficiency. Some foods rich in Vitamin K are- broccoli, cucumbers, dried basil and cabbage. 

4.    Cook with coconut oil- Coconut oil is one of the best cooking oils as it provides immense health benefits. People with lactose intolerance and other digestive problems should consume food made with coconut oil as it kills bad bacteria and balances your hormonal levels.
