Google doodle pays tribute to Dr Govindappa Venkataswamy

On the 100th birth anniversary of Indian opthalmologist Dr Govindappa Venkataswamy, Google dedicated its popular Google Doodle. 

Dr Govindappa Venkataswamy is the founder and former chairman of Aravind Eye Hospital. He had dedicated all his life for eradicating blindness.He is very famous for inventing high volume, excellent quality and low-cost service delivery model that has restored sight to millions of people.

Dr Govindappa Venkataswamy was born on 1st October 1918, at a very early age Dr Govindappa Venkataswamy was permanently crippled by rheumatoid arthritis. Inspite of having a health problem, he went on to help many people. As soon as he passed out of medical school, Dr. Govindappa Venkataswamy took up a career in obstetrics and joined the Indian Army Medical Corps. The renowned doctor is trained in ophthalmology and has performed over 100,000 eye surgeries.
