5 Remedies for Foot Perspiration

Dealing with sweaty feet can get difficult. Known as a hereditary condition called plantar hyperhidrosis, it leads to overproduction of sweat. This condition can be caused due to many reasons, like warm weather, fever, infection, certain fabrics, and nervousness.

To save yourself the embarrassment of foot perspiration and odor, here are a few home remedies that will help prevent/cure them:

Baking Soda:
Baking soda is an effective home remedy to prevent foot odor. It helps balance the pH levels of sweat and prevent bacteria. Mix one tsp of baking soda in warm water and soak your feet in it for 15-20 minutes once a day for a week. You can sprinkle baking soda inside your shoes and socks before using them as well.

Lavender Oil:
Lavender oil helps kill bacteria. It contains antifungal agents, which are effective for treating foot odor. Add few drops of lavender essential oil to warm water and soak your feet for 15-20 minutes twice a day for two weeks.

Alum powder contains astringent and antiseptic properties, which prevent bacterial growth. Mix one tsp of alum powder in warm water and soak your feet in this solution for 15-20 minutes, once every day. You can also sprinkle this powder on your feet after drying them.

Epsom Salt:
Epsom salt fights microbial infection and neutralizes foot odor, which helps minimize bad odor from feet. Mix two tsp of Epsom salt in warm water and soak your feet in the solution for 10-15 minutes every day. Do not wear socks or shoes for few hours after drying your feet. This also helps soothe aching feet. Try it before bedtime for best results.

Black Tea:
Black tea contains tannic acid, which helps kill the foot odor-causing bacteria. It also helps close the pores over your feet and reduce sweating. Boil two black tea bags in three cups of hot water and add it to half a bucket of normal water. Soak your feet in it for 15-20 minutes daily for one week.      -Sumana Reddy
