Zayn Malik reportedly left One Direction for fiancee Perrie Edwards. Now, just five months later, the engagement is off.
"He wanted to go and spend some time with his family and missus," former bandmate Liam Payne said in May shortly after Malik quit the band. Just three weeks ago, Edwards posted a shot with Malik appearing happy. "Love ma man," she captioned the picture.
Both Malik and Edwards are 22. The singers became engaged in 2013. Edwards is one of four singers in the girl group Little Mix. Like One Direction, Little Mix formed on the UK version of The X Factor. The girls won the competition in 2011.
A representative for Malik confirmed Tuesday the couple had ended their engagement. No other details were provided.
People magazine reports that Malik called it off two weeks ago leaving Edwards "devastated".
"She's been putting on a brave face, as [her band] Little Mix have had promotion to do, but she's obviously devastated," the source told People magazine
In an interview with E! on Tuesday, Edwards was asked a question about how she's doing after the split, responding: "I'm good, thank you."
The break up news comes less than a week after it was revealed Zayn had signed a recording contract as a solo artist with RCA Records.
