Water for the needy

American giant provides safe drinking water to a remote Indian village

Gerdau, a producer of long steel in the America and one of the largest suppliers of special steel in the world, inaugurated an RO Water Plant in Gannevaripalli village in Tadipatri Mandal, Andhra Pradesh. With the support of villagers who volunteered in construing the shed, the company invested around Rs. 5 lakhs in the project of setting up RO plant machinery in Gannevaripalli. Nearly 2000 people is meant to benefit from this plant which has a capacity of 2000 litres per hour.

The RO plant was inaugurated by Sridhar Krishnamoorthy, MD, Gerdau Steel India Limited. Speaking on this occasion he said, “As part of our continual commitment to the community, various programmes are being conducted in different parts of the Mandal at regular intervals. One such programme organised in Gannevaripalli village recently is for providing safe drinking water to villagers. In addition to this, Gerdau has also undertaken several community development initiatives that contributes towards the sustainable development of the rural areas”.

Dr Ramesh Nath Lingutla, NRI and native of this village contributed Rs 2 Lakhs towards digging of borewell for this plant. Village President Ch.Venkata Ramana, Mandal officials also participated in this programme.
