Keeping in the mind the government's idea of creating a greener environment, For the first time ever, Sri Lanka has introduced a three wheeler electric vehicle, tuk- tuk.
This new mode of public transportation has been launched by the Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade Malik Samarawickrama. By the year 2020, Sri Lanka aims to minimise the emission of greenhouse gas by 10 percent in the transport sector. With one time charge, This electric vehicle can travel upto 130 kilometres.
In the present day scenario, People in Sri Lanka prefer electric vehicles as the excise tax has imposed a higher rate on the petrol and diesel mode of transportation.
