The Grammy-winning rapper known as 50 Cent filed for bankruptcy in Connecticut after losing a lawsuit in a New York court over a 2008 sex tape and the jury ordered him to pay $US5 million in an invasion-of-privacy lawsuit.
Lawyers for the “Get Rich or Die Tryin" star filed for personal bankruptcy Monday — the same day he was called to testify about his finances in a lawsuit brought by a woman whose sex tape he posted online.
Originally posted on 50 Cent’s website, the video spread to porn sites and has garnered millions of views. The rapper, wearing a wig and playing his “Pimpin’ Curly” character, crudely narrates over the tape and mocks the woman’s body.
This might come as a shock as In May, Forbes reported that Fiddy was worth an estimated $155 million. He has multiple incomi streams; his music, partnership with Effen Vodka, SMS headphones and stake in Frigo underwear all help him rake in money. He’s also an actor and executive producer in the Starz series “Power.”
The rapper though doesn’t seem to be losing any sleep over the legal wrangling.
Friday, he threw himself a 40th-birthday bash in Las Vegas — and planned to keep up the festivities Monday night in Los Angeles.
On Sunday, he tweeted, “I can’t remember a year that I had this much fun. Just good energy every were I go.”
