Pavan Allena is the founder and CEO of Metamorphosis, a start-up that aims to enable the entrepreneurial skills of school- and college-going students, by way of activity-based learning. The uniqueness of his business lies in the content and teaching methodologies offered to the students. The organisation boasts trainers that are actual entrepreneurs and industry experts who share their insights with the students.
Pavan began his entrepreneurial journey at the age of 19, when he had the idea of tracking school buses and students with the help of Internet of Things (IoT) devices. During this time, he had an opportunity to share about his experiences with high school students. The questions he was asked about his business, and the students’ general enthusiasm towards business are what inspired him to create Metamorphosis. After analysing whether the current curriculums were aligned with real life/ 21st century skills, he identified a huge gap in the education sector. He went on to design a curriculum that assists students’ entrepreneurial journeys.
Although his customers and other stakeholders didn’t initially take him seriously as he was quite young when he started out, he knew well enough that his strategies would make all the difference in his business. His promotional events, like the Schoolpreneur Summit, Entrepreneurial Olympiads, and Break the Glass Ceiling (Debate on Entrepreneurship vs Jobs) helped his business grow. He also got a boost from social media partnerships with magazines like Brain Feed, Education World, and others.
One of Pavan’s strategies relates to hiring employees: he goes by talent, not their degrees. There’s a unique entrance exam that needs to be cracked to join Metamorphosis, known as the Employee Business Quotient Olympiad, and it assesses the following skills:
- Business world quotient
- Communication skills
- Personal effectiveness
- Long-term visionaries
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word
- Active participation in college/school fests
