The Nawab of Bollywood - Saif Ali Khan

Saif Ali Khan

Heartthrob and an actor par excellence, Saif Ali Khan has, over the years, won the hearts of many. His chiseled looks and charming personality are what set him apart from the rest. Married to one of Bollywood’s leading ladies, Kareena Kapoor Khan, the couple has a gorgeous son—Taimur Ali Khan—and the seven month-old toddler has already taken Bollywood and the nation by storm thanks to his adorable features. From hosting the recently concluded IIFA 2017 to starring in Sacred Games, a series on Netflix, and even appearing in the upcoming film Kaalakaandi, this year is proving to be a power-packed one for Saif. Here’s what he had to say…

On IIFA 2017…
“I am happy to be back to the IIFA stage this year as I join my close friend Karan Johar to host the IIFA Awards in New York. The excitement for IIFA has been steadily growing worldwide. This year it’s going to be super fun and glamorous in every way as Karan and I are going to have lots of surprises in store for our fans internationally!”

On the ‘nepotism’ controversy…
“’Nepotism Rocks’ was a joke on stage. It’s not something that I wrote or something I believe in. It was a joke on ourselves, between Varun (Dhawan), Karan (Johar), and me.
The real flag bearer of nepotism, I’d say is the media. Look at how they treat Taimur, Shahid’s daughter Misha or even Shah Rukh’s son AbRam. They photograph them and hype them up to be the next big thing and the child has no choice. From a young age they have to deal with being celebrities, which they don’t really deserve, before they can even speak or talk, leave alone understand what is happening.”

On Starring in Sacred Games…
Saif Ali Khan has been roped in by US-based on-demand streaming website Netflix to appear in its upcoming original series Sacred Games. The series, based on Indian author Vikram Chandra’s novel of the same name, will feature Saif as Sartaj Singh.

“Content in the digital space is taking over the existing dynamics at a rapid pace—the crown in the digital empire lies with Netflix, and it’s extremely satisfying to partner and participate in the first original series from India to be showcased on Netflix.”

On the film Kaalakaandi....
Kaalakaandi, a dark comedy directed by Akshat Verma, has been locked for release on September 8. It is the story of six characters from different worlds.

“Kaalakaandi is a film I’m so happy to be part of. It’s a cross section of Mumbai with underworld goons, doomed bankers, and idealistic lovers all mixed together in this karmic tale about love, crime, and living a lifetime in one night.

Akshat has written and directed this unique movie...and he is probably the only voice who tells it exactly like it actually is. Mumbai is a crazy, beautiful city and he has captured it perfectly in this very fun and very moving film.”                    -- inputs from IANS
