Music In His Soul - Poodari Siddharth

What began as a little fling with music became something much more for model-turned-DJ Siddharth, who is more widely known by his stage name – “Siddie Boy”. The lad, who has now been in the music business for over eight years, has played at some of Hyderabad’s well-known spots, like Rendezvous, Playboy, Olive Bistro, Sky, Aqua, Kismet, and Liquids, to name a few. He has also shared the console with SKRILLEX and has worked with DJs like Nucleya, DJ KAN-i (India’s best Hip Hop DJ) and a host of other names.

Tell us something about yourself.
I studied for a B.A. in fashion designing, but my interest in music and nightlife attracted me to become a DJ. Acting was also something I was passionate about.

Has music always been an interest to you?
Yes, music was and is a prime factor to anyone and everyone these days. I’m happy to be a part of the music scene and make a lot of partygoers happy through my music. I listen to and respect all genres of music, but my interest in hip-hop is just very addictive.

When did you decide that you wanted to be a DJ?
As a design intern I used to be backstage helping models at fashion shows, and attended the after-parties often. The DJs at those parties influenced me a lot; so my interest in music became stronger and my will to become a DJ rose from there.

What’s the most rewarding part of being a DJ?
The amount of respect and happiness people give you at the end of the night, through their love is really amazing. And obviously the money we make is super motivating as well (smiles).

You’ve attended some interesting music festivals around the world. Are there any fun experiences you would like to share?
I have been to a lot of music festivals and have also played at a few. The amount of knowledge you can gain through various DJs who perform alongside you motivates you to not just settle at where you are, but to grow even more. Additionally, being backstage with all the other DJs is great fun.

What is your favourite genre of music?
Hip-hop and Trap are both my styles of music.

Where do you usually play in Hyderabad and at what events?
I have played at almost all the clubs around Hyderabad. I started my first residency at Liquids when Mr Naren Pal Singh, the then-manager gave me a chance to play there. I still work with him. Some of the best clubs and bars I have played at over the years are Free Flow, Playboy, Zero 40, Block 22, Rendezvous, 10 Downing Street, and Bottles & Chimney, among others.

What are your other hobbies and passions?
I love to watch movies and travel. I want to be the best Hip-Hop DJ, like my brother and my inspiration, DJ kan-1.         – as told to Suneela
