On Martin Luther King Jr. day, Green Day honoured the civil rights leader by releasing an a lyric video for "Troubled Times," from Revolution Radio, which takes aim at President-elect Donald Trump.
"Today we celebrate love and compassion more than ever," Billie Joe Armstrong said in a statement that accompanied the Manu Viqueira and David Rodriguez Simón-created video. “What part of history we learned / When it's repeated / Some things will never overcome / If we don't seek it,” lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong sings in the tune, seemingly referencing the current political climate of the United States. “The world stops turning / Paradise burning / So don't think twice … We live in troubled times.”
Green Day has previously spoken out against the President-elect during a performance at the American Music Awards in November.
“No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA,” Armstrong repeated throughout a performance of “Bang Bang.”
