Grammy nominations revealed: Sam Smith, Beyoncé score top noms

Things kicked off in a different way this year when it came to revealing the nominations for the 57th annual Grammy Awards.  Pharrell Williams and Ed Sheeran announced the nominations for four categories for the 2015 nominations on “This Morning”, which aired on CBS. The nominations in the remaining categories were revealed throughout the rest of the day via Twitter in video posts by a number of artists, like from Alanis Morissette to Jared Leto.

British singer and newcomer Sam Smith proved to be this year’s favourite holding the most nominations with six, tying him with Beyoncé and Williams. Smith could not hide his excitement, tweeting: "What is going on!! 6 Grammy nominations. Dear Lord."

Beyoncé made history by becoming the most nominated female artist in Grammy history, bringing her total to 51 and surpassing Dolly Parton, with whom she had been tied at 46.

With a best rock album nod for "Songs of Innocence," U2 added to its own record as most-nominated group, now with a total of 46.

Artists from Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus also received top nods this year.

The Grammys takes place on 8 February at the Staples Center, Los Angeles.
