Ed Sheeran is Spotify's Most-Streamed Artist for 2014

Ed Sheeran has been named the year's most streamed global artist on Spotify.
The 23-year-old British singer-songwriter was given the title worldwide and racked up more than 860 million streams on the service, beating Eminem and Coldplay, who came second and third respectively. Eminem also topped the list in the United States.
Sheeran’s latest album, “x”, which hit the million sales mark in the UK this week, was played 430 million times. Pharrell Williams secured the most streamed song of 2014 with “Happy”, which was streamed more than 260 million times. In the US, the most streamed track was Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy”. Katy Perry was the most streamed female artist. Coldplay, on the other hand, was the most played band on Spotify. The new album from English singer-songwriter Sam Smith, called “In The Lonely Hour”, was the second most popular album worldwide this year
Behind Sheeran on the global list are Eminem, Calvin Harris, Avicii and David Guetta. On the U.S. tally, Drake, Kanye West, Lana Del Rey and Ariana Grande follow Eminem.
Spotify says more than seven billion hours of music was streamed this year by more than 50 million users.
