Mother's Day came early at Milan Fashion Week as Dolce and Gabbana's latest autumn/winter show took a sentimental turn, with the show's inspiration celebrating the “fulcrum of the family”, mothers. In a tribute to mothers and motherhood, each model carried a baby down the runway for the collection, titled “Viva Mamma!” to the tune of "Mama" by the Spice Girls. Bianca Balti, who is six months pregnant, showed off her baby bump in a pink dress.
The show also included giant jewel-studded headphones and colorful silk prints based on kids’ drawings. “Ti voglio bene”, I love you in Italian, was scrawled in black across creations edged in lace, while “mamma” or “I love you mamma” in English was written round the neck of other rose-strewn numbers .
Stefano Gabbana’s own childish drawing for his mother—it looked as if he had done it about age six or seven—was on one of the invitations. Another showed one of Domenico Dolce’s love letters to his mom, made when he was a boy.
