Tell us what your design career has been like so far.
I started off in 2011, and since it’s my dream job, I love it and enjoy how it keeps evolving. I’ve always taken it as it comes, and don’t make too many set plans. I am a self-taught designer. However, the amount I’ve learnt through the journey is as good as an education in itself. It’s made me a whole new person altogether.

Lots of Bollywood stars are seen wearing your creations. Was this something you always wanted for your brand?
It’s been very organic for me. The whole process has been very natural. I’ve never been someone to plan too much. I have never gone out of my way to reach out to anyone or do anything. Seeing Bollywood stars appreciate my brand is a nice feeling, but it wasn’t something I set out to do.

What have been the most rewarding and exciting parts?
I find production – the day-to-day running of the show – quite tedious. It looks glamorous on the outside, but is anything but that. The timelines, deadlines, etc. are all a huge task! But what I find most enjoyable is the design aspect, as it comes very naturally to me.

What does style mean to you?
I am someone who believes in comfort dressing. Style also depends on so many other aspects: the attitude, mindset, and fitness level of the person. Style is a combination of so many things, apart from just one’s clothes.

Who are some of the most stylish people in India, according to you?
There are lots of them. I find Kangana Ranaut and Sonam Kapoor very stylish.

What inspires you?
I am inspired by the vintage Victorian era, and at the same time something that is strongly Indian.

What are your other hobbies and passions?
I love going out with my friends and family and I also travel a lot. I have two little boys and they keep me on my toes always!

How do you achieve a work-life balance?
In general, I love working, and need a lot on my plate; that’s what keeps me going. So I love having my hands full always!     – as told to Suneela
