CBS has officially given a series order for ‘The Big Bang Theory’ spinoff ‘Young Sheldon.’
The new comedy will be set during the childhood of Jim Parsons' character on the original series and the 9-year-old Sheldon is living with his family in Texas and attending high school.
Iain Armitage, currently on HBO’s ‘Big Little Lies,’ will play the title character. Parsons will serve as the narrator on the show and is also an executive producer. Filmmaker Jon Favreau (‘The Jungle Book’, ‘Iron Man’) is directing the first episode.
‘Big Bang’ co-creator Chuck Lorre and current show runner Steven Molaro are credited as creators on ‘Young Sheldon’ and will executive produce with Parsons and Todd Spiewak. The cast includes Zoe Perry as Sheldon’s mother, Lance Barber as his dad and Raegan Revord and Montana Jordan as his sister and brother.
An air date for the spinoff was not announced.
