Ben Affleck, 42, and Jennifer Garner, 43, announced their plans to divorce on June 30, one day after they celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary. That milestone is significant symbolically, of course, but it also may have legal implications for their now-imminent divorce. According to California law, the 10-year mark in a marriage qualifies it as one of "long duration," and could affect spousal support.
The couple said in a joint statement, "After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private family matter. Thank you for understanding."
The two are parents to three kids: Violet, nine, Seraphina, six, and Samuel, three. The couple is also planning to go to a mediator to settle their divorce, the person said.
Rumours about the couple’s divorce first circulated in late May after OK! magazine reported that Affleck, 42, and Garner have decided to terminate their marriage, and the divorce could be worth $150 million.
The two met while making 2003's "Daredevil," in which they both played superheroes. They wed in 2005.
