Art for the Soul

Huma Latif

Dear Readers,

A stalwart in the field of art, Pablo Picasso—a painter, sculptor, ceramist, and poet— once said, “The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.”

India is home to some phenomenal names in the field of art, who have come a long way from just painting traditional designs on canvases to now venturing into sculpting, fabric painting, art on vases, sand art, pop art etc. Our August issue is an ode to all those artists who have, through their creative talent, made us see a different world. Turn to Feature where we’ve showcased some renowned names from the field.
On the cover is the dashing Saif Ali Khan who recently hosted the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) in New York City. From facing criticism for his remark pertaining to ‘nepotism’ at the award ceremony, to saying he cannot imagine Bollywood without Karan Johar...the Nawab of Pataudi spills the beans in Cover Story.

Taking the theme of art further, in People we have Delhi-based artist-turned-entrepreneur Bhavna Minocha talk to us about The Art Hub, a school that teaches the various forms of art. Turn to People to read more about her.

Art therapy, referring to a psychological therapy that uses visual art to explore thoughts and emotions of an individual, has become a common term nowadays. In Mind & Body we talk about the benefits of art to our mind, body, and soul.

In Sensational Spaces we have a beautiful 4BHK apartment in Delhi, designed by interior designer duo Monica and Hardesh Chawla. An amalgam of everything one could ask for, it has spacious rooms that can open fully so that light, not noise, passes through.

Moving on, it was all about family time when Chhaya Momaya went to the Amalfi Coast with her husband and son, to celebrate her birthday. Having visited the Italian coastline several times previously, this time the family indulged in some much needed TLC. Check out Grand Getaways to know more about their trip.

And tell us what you think. If you have any suggestions, comments or queries, please e-mail me at publisher@you-and-i.com.

Best Wishes,

Huma Bilgrami Latif
