Alexander Wang is leaving Balenciaga as creative director, WWD reports, meaning a hunt for his successor is on. He was the replacement for Nicolas Ghesquière, who decamped for Louis Vuitton after a 15-year stint with the French label.
Rumours about Wang’s departure surfaced earlier this month when the French fashion house's owner, Kering, released a statement saying, "There are discussions between the designer and Balenciaga regarding the renewal of the contract." A spokesperson for Wang had said that "discussions are currently underway between Balenciaga and Alexander Wang regarding the renewal of his contract."
According to the trade, the American designer's spring 2016 show , scheduled for this fall during Paris Fashion Week , will be his last. A possible successor has not yet been proposed. Citing Alessandro Michele’s critical and financial successes at Kering-owned Gucci, a source reports that the corporation is open to hiring an unknown designer at Balenciaga.
