Rajkummar Rao’s “Newton” Nominated For Oscars 


Indian comedy drama film “Newton” starring Rajkummar Rao has been nominated for the 90th Academy Awards in the category of Best Foreign Language film. The movie is directed by Amit V Masurkar and produced by Manish Mundra. 

“Newton” revolves around the story of Newton Kumar played by Rajkummar Rao, a government clerk who ties to run a free and fair election in a conflict area in central India. The film was premiered at the Forum section of the 67th Berlin International Film Festival. Earlier “Newton” has won the Asia pacific Screen Award for best screenplay and Rajkummar Rao won the Best Actor award for his performance in the film. 

However, “Newton” could not be part of the nine films that have gone to the next round. The films that have gone to the next round are “A Fantastic Woman” (Chile), “In the Fade” (Germany), “On Body and Soul” (Hungary), “Foxtrot” (Israel), “The Insult” (Lebanon), “Loveless” (Russia), “Felicite” (Senegal), “The Wound” (South Africa) and “The Square” (Sweden).
